Maca is a traditional root plant from Peru known in its country of origin for its various medicinal purposes. It is regarded as the “peruvian ginseng” although it’s not a part of the ginseng family. Many compare the capability of Maca to ginseng because its medicinal value is almost the same as ginseng.
Even though Maca has medicinal properties, it is slowly becoming an herbal medicine that deals with hormone imbalance. Maca is traditionally known to revive sexual energy and even infertility. Some also consider the herbal medicine as a good source of additional energy.
The ability to revive sexual energy, strength and infertility are three properties that signify that Maca can actually restore balance in hormones. When a person experiences hormonal imbalance, the sexual energy and other physical capability diminishes. It is also possible for people with hormone imbalance to experience infertility.

E. coli or Escherichia coli are a bacterium that can be found in the gut of both humans and animals. While many strains are completely harmless to humans, some can produce toxins that lead to diarrhoea and cramps. Currently the O104 strain is affecting some people in Europe. The strain can produce a toxin that damages the kidneys and sticks to the gut allowing more harmful bacteria to grow, producing even more toxins.
The latest outbreak has been linked to Germany were nearly 2,000 people have been ill and 22 people have died. It has been thought that a farm in North Germany is the epicentre of the epidemic and that the bacterium has been passed to humans through vegetables including bean sprouts, cucumbers and tomatoes.

For years scientists didn’t have clear evidence to prove that mobile phones caused cancer. Considering that 4.1 billion people, or over half of the world’s population have a mobile phone it has became a big topic and has gained a lot of interest. A study released yesterday by the World Health Organization has finally given us an answer and has found that our cell phones do cause brain cancer.
The first handheld mobile phone was demonstrated by Motorola employee Dr. Martin Cooper in 1973, since then the devices have shrunk and included inbuilt aerials, touch screens and many other additions. Mobile telephone masts have been placed around the country and some have even been placed near primary schools but no one has actually stopped the networks from placing the masts, without proof we were only speculating that they could cause damage.

Running around the block daily may be seen as a good way to keep your body active but recent research has shown that it may also be the key to keeping your brain healthy. In the UK 1 out of every 20 people above the age of 65 has dementia. Dementia is a syndrome where the areas of the brain responsible for memory, attention, language and problem solving are affected causing people to not be able to think or communicate correctly.
The Karolinska Institute in Stockholm has recently held experiments to see if there is a connection between people that are overweight and those that were more likely to have dementia. Their results show that those with a BMI between 25 and 30 were 71% more likely to have the brain based illness later on in life. Those classified as obese were 288% more likely to have dementia after 65 compared to those who have a healthy weight.
With 1.6 billion people overweight worldwide the problem is likely to get worst but exercise holds the key. We need to do 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise 5 days a week to stay healthy. One of the most common forms of exercise is jogging; it’s free and easy to do offering a way to stay in shape for free.

Citizens of the United Kingdom enjoy a government-funded healthcare. The NHS or National Health Service provides free health care to every citizen residing in the country. The NHS is not necessarily a health care insurance system because there are no premiums or any explicit method of extracting pre-payment. However, the citizens pay for their health care in form of taxes. The NHS is in charge of providing health care to citizens with almost any health problems.
Aside from government health care, there are also private companies offering health insurance in the UK. These private companies complement the current health care system in order to expedite some of the services. Insurance for health care often come as a job benefit although there are some individuals who are opting to use the advantages of private insurance.

According to latest figures the average life expectancy continues to rise for those living in the UK. The change in lifestyle over the decades has sprung greater fears of obesity however despite the threats, unlike the US, the increase in type 2-diabetes hasn’t had an immediate effect on mortality rates.
In 2007 the average Briton lived to 80 years old with a larger percentage of women living longer than men. In the 2009 that number rose again to 82.6 years for women while men had an average of 78.4 years. We are compared to America a lot due to similar diets and living conditions and we can see that Americans current life expectancy is less with a combined average of 78 years.
The life expectancy of all Europeans has seen a drastic increase over the past 5 years. According to professionals in the field, changes to living and the banning of smoking in clubs and pubs would surely have been a big benefactor to the new figures.
