There are two types of bacteria: the good and the bad bacteria. These bacteria can be found in and around our body and they play important roles to our physical functions. Recently, scientists came up with an atlas of the different bacteria living in different parts of our body. Some of these bacteria are good and helps us stay healthy while some are bad and makes us sick.
The scientists hope that their atlas of bacteria would help to aid in the clinical research. They hope that one day, it would be possible to identify which site of the human body would certain microbes be transplanted for health benefits.
The study shows that the community of bacteria varies on every person. The location as to where the community of bacteria is found also varies on every individual although patterns were discovered.

The month of October is the breast cancer awareness month. It is celebrated by giving out more information about how to take care of the breasts to avoid getting cancer. It’s an international campaign that occurs annually and is organised by several charitable institutions promoting breast cancer awareness.
The purpose of this isn’t only to increase the awareness of people with the danger signs of breast cancer and how to prevent it, but also to raise funds for more research about the disease. So in the future, better technology and treatment would be available and people with this form of cancer would have a much higher chance to get cured.
Millions of women get this kind of cancer while some men, although fewer than women, are inflicted with this disease every year. Breast cancer is now curable but only if it’s detected on its earlier stage. With the increased awareness, the organizers hope to get as many people aware of the signs and symptoms so they can ask for treatment before it’s too late.

Summer has always been one of the best seasons especially since it means it’s time to don that cute bikini and strut your stuff on the shores of your favourite beach. However before you go frolicking in the sand, here are a few simple steps to look your best under the sun’s scorching rays.
ALWAYS put on sunscreen, preferably with an SPF count of 30 or higher, before you go out in the sun. Don’t scrimp on the amount of sun block that you use and you have to apply on all parts of your body to protect them evenly. Also remember to wait for at least 15 minutes for the sunscreen to sink into your skin before you take a dip in the water.
Sunglasses are not just for fashion purposes, they also keep your eyes safe from the sun’s glare plus you won’t always have to squint and look all weird.

The effects of the soy isoflavores that are found in many dietary supplements on our body tissues are being studied by the scientists from the University o Illinois. With the soy consumption, you get to consume phytoestrogens which is a compound that is similar to estrogens and is found in some plants.
The project for this study is funded by the National Institutes of Health amounting to $8 million. William G. Helferich, professor for food science & nutrition, led the study and researched about the effects of high level isoflavone. It had shown that the high levels of isoflavone genistein promoted the cancer cell growth in animals that are used as representative for postmenopausal and estrogen dependent women with breast cancer.
Preclinical investigations will be conducted by 3 groups on animal representatives to see the effects of isoflavones on different doses as well as exposure time to see their effects on our breasts, brains and also with at. The mechanisms of isoflavone will also be tested by another group.
Soy consumption gives enough amount of isoflavone but there are dietary products that contain isoflavones in high concentrations and high concentrated isoflavones are not regulated by the FDA.
With the linkage of phytoestrogens with cardiovascular problems, this study is essential to prove once and for all if high concentration of isoflavones increases your risk to cancer cells and other diseases.

This type of cancer is known to be a silent killer. It’s a silent killer because when you have the cancer, you won’t experience any signs or symptoms and whenever you start to feel something’s not right and you get yourself checked, it’s almost always too late as the cancer had already reached an advanced stage.
The usual symptoms you’d experience include upper abdominal pain that reaches the back area and when you start to learn forward, the pain subsides a bit. You would also feel nauseated and you’d lose your appetite and you may also start to vomit every once in a while. Of course when you start to lose your appetite then you’d have a drastic weight loss. Another symptom for an advanced stage of pancreatic cancer is jaundice. This is caused by the cancer that reached or starts at the pancreas’ head which is very common and this cancer is obstructing the bile duct. Another symptom that can also be associated with pancreatic cancer is clinical depression. Sometimes clinical depression starts to show even before the person experiences other symptoms therefore he/she may be diagnosed with clinical depression before they learn that he/she has pancreatic cancer although clinical depression is caused by other factors as well.

The A(H1N1) flu virus had infected thousands of people in over 70 countries and it continues to infect more and more people thus it reached the pandemic level 6 alert as the virus is already widespread. Although the virus is not lethal, it still needs a vaccine to stop its spread which is why several pharmaceutical companies are trying to develop a vaccine for the swine flu virus.
Novartis had been the first to announce that their first batch of A(H1N1) flu vaccine is ready to undergo pre-clinical trials and said that they are hoping to produce the vaccine by September or the most by October of this year. Their first batch of vaccine had been produced earlier than expected and they hope to start their trial testing this July to see if it is indeed successful so they could mass produce it.

What is dementia and what is Alzheimer’s disease? Many get confused between the two but there are actually ways for you to distinguish them both.
Alzheimer’s disease is actually the most common form of dementia and it usually strikes a person as young as 45 years old. It is when a person suffers from memory loss. It’s when your grandma often forgets where she left her purse or whether or not she is already wearing her false teeth. It can also get severe to the point that they no longer remember your name or where they live.
Dementia is a general term for mental conditions where Alzheimer’s also belongs to which is why many gets confused with the two terms. It can be hard to differentiate them both but the easiest way to detect is on the age of the patient suffering it. If he/she suffered from the ailment at the age of 70 and above then it is probably dementia and not Alzheimer’s.
